THQ has confirmed that the rumours circulating over the last few days are true and that the PlayStation 3 version of the multiplayer team-based shooter, Frontlines: Fuel of War, has been cancelled. That's not all that THQ has announced though - the publisher will also be abandoning the Juiced and Stuntman franchises.

The news was dropped in an update to THQ's 2008 fiscal statement which notes ""non-cash charges of approximately $27 million" as reasoning for the cancellation of both Frontlines PS3 and Destroy All Humans!: Big Willy Unleashed on the PlayStation 2.

THQ admits that the Juiced and Stuntman franchises were underperforming on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

THQ CEO and president, Brian Farrel, said that the cancellations were required in order to "strengthen [THQ's] pipeline and position [the company] to compete aggressively with compelling, high quality games."

We managed to have a hands-on with Frontlines: Fuel of War a little while ago and found it to be a solid and enjoyable, if somewhat uninspired multiplayer game. Here's hoping that the PC version doesn't get canned too, eh?

Games like Drake's Fortune have shown what the machine is capable of, but as yet another PS3 title is cancelled one has to wonder if the system is somewhat cursed. What do you think? Let us know in the forums.
