GoldenEye for the Xbox 360 has been delayed indefinitely because of licensing problems.
The rumours have been circling lately that an Xbox Live Arcade port of the seminal Nintendo 64 title, GoldenEye
would be making an appearance at some point in the near future. Understandably, everybody was on the edge of their seats and ready to pay unprecedented amounts for the chance to play Bond once more.
Unfortunately, we're going to have to let you down - the rumours have been debunked by original developers Rare and by Microsoft. Kind of.
Apparently, there was
a version of GoldenEye
for XBLA in the works and the port was almost entirely finished when the project ran into trouble. Now, the release of the game has been indefinitely delayed as Microsoft and Nintendo squabble over licenses.
To make matters worse, 1-Up.com
got an inside scoop on the project and found out it was only two-months away from completion and release when it ran into trouble. The game would have been a full and faithful adaptation of the original game, complete with multiplayer support over Xbox Live.
It's a sad state of affairs, but many games get stuck in this development hell - like Halo DS
, which suffered a similar fate a while back.
Would you have picked up GoldenEye
for the Xbox, or would you have clung to your memories of the original version? Let us know in the forums
