The rather creepy note in full. Shame the culprit couldn't work out how to use the spell checker...
Reports are circulating on the web of several disappointed
iPod-owners-to-be who opened their iPod packages expecting to see a shiny piece of design perfection and instead were treated to a
Unabomber-style rant according to
MyFox.
Unwrapping the present, one little girl found that the iPod box actually contained an immaculately-wrapped rock and a photocopied note reading:
"
RECLAIM YOUR MIND FROM THE MEDIAS [sic] SHACKLES. READ A BOOK AND RESSURECT [sic] YOURSELF...TO CLAIM YOUR CAPITALISTIC GARBAGE GO TO YOUR NEAREST APPLE STORE."
The manager of the Washington D.C. Wal-mart store the iPod was purchased from claimed that there have been multiple customers returning empty boxes all brandishing the same note, written in a chilling kidnapper-esque typewriter font.
Each customer has been given a full refund - after all, would
you want to risk a replacement from a store containing at least one product-tampering anti-capitalist employee?
So far it seems to be nothing more than a prank carried out by an employee of the Wal-Mart store, as all the reports are so far centered around that area of Washington D.C.
Wal-Mart are keeping shtum on the matter though, and so far no-one has worked out what actually happened to the iPods that
should have been in the boxes. I wonder if the iUnabomber's personal moral code precludes the listing of several boxless iPods on eBay?
Did you receive anything this Christmas that wasn't what it claimed to be, or has it all been plain sailing present-wise? Give us the low-down via
the forums.

on the other hand, that was naughty, bad person!!
ROFL!!!!!!!!!1
Yes, because Apple obviously need to market the iPod and make more people aware of it ;)

sometimes lack of spelling makes people look twice and get the message better.... i think.
Another nutter who thinks he is a philosopher with a special insight into the human condition...
And no, a thief that smart wont get caught, not unless he does it again. Then he'd be a stupid thief.
:)
As a matter of fact...
My wife bought me Photoshop CS2 from the Amazon.com marketplace. Turned out to be a pirated version. The first clue was the note on the side of the box that read: "Made for Microsoft Windews."
Oddly enough, Adobe didn't seemed concerned in the least bit. They told me that the situation sucks, we should try to get a refund, and thanks for calling. Oh well. Amazon guarantees a full refund for pirated software, and the seller agreed to give us our money back. Whatcha gonna do, eh?

Have you Read my Signature lately????
I did it!!!
It's because I hate apple and the Iphuckaguy brand!
Not sure about the US, but most places in the UK that stock iPods (Aside from Currys Digital) stock them as Apple do, no shrink wrap, just a really poor quality piece of tape, which is easily removed without damage to the boxes if you're patient about it.
Edit: Asuming they were not ones with the clear boxes that're nice and cheap, ala shuffle/nano/classic. Touch is still in a black box IIRC

Some people hate cheesecake. It doesn't have to be rational. :p
Yes, normally I would agree with you. However, recently our local CompUSA was having its going-out-of-business sale and they had a copy of CS2 reduced far below the MSRP. Regretfully, we passed on it at the time. My wife had hoped that this was a similar case: a seller getting rid of old stock for bargain - though still relatively expensive - prices. Live and learn, I suppose.
