Duke Nukem: the man, the legend - the incredibly long wait for another game, which will have a nice interlude today.
Duke Nukem Forever has been a legend among gamers for a while now, existing in one form or another since
Duke Nukem 3D was released way back when.
Duke Nukem Forever has now been in development at 3D Realms for over ten years.
In that time we've had
occasional glimpses of the
older versions. Later today, we get a look at the newest version, which is built on a heavily modified version of the
Unreal II engine that has been massively rewritten. It ties in nicely with ongoing rumours that
Duke Nukem will see a 2008 release.
George Broussard of 3D Realms posted the following comment on the
official forums:
"
Last Saturday we had our annual company Christmas party. It was a lot of fun as usual but it featured one special surprise. It turns out that several people had been secretly working late nights and into the wee hours of the morning preparing a special video for those at the party. They created a short teaser for Duke Nukem Forever.
After seeing the teaser we thought it was something we should share with all of you and while it's just a teaser, rest assured more is coming.
Tomorrow, Wednesday the 19th, around noon CST, we will release the first teaser trailer from Duke Nukem Forever. To tide you over until then, here is a screen shot taken from the teaser (see right).
Thank you for being fans of the game and for your continued patience.
I'd like to thank the people on the team that worked so hard to create this teaser and the friends of 3DR that helped create it (Jeremy Soule and Julian Soule, Frank Bry, Jason Evigan and of course, Jon St. John)."
So, just a short wait until the world ends, or it this just going to be another disappointment? Only time will tell for sure, but until then you can speculate in
the forums.
Update:
The teaser trailer is online now! See it
on ShackNews.
So not far behind the times, then.
:(
But now, as an adult with a job, I don't know when I'd be able to play with my mates, :(
@Joe Martin:
And what is 'CST'? Give us a meaningful UTC+/- offset will you?!

It doesn't matter how good it is anyway, it will still be a big let down, we've been wating way too long.
Why hasn't anyone remade DN3D for Source?, that would be good :D
I can't wait for the game though.
I'll still play it but it looks very "last year", shame its not on the U3 engine really.
Thank god it's not on UE3! UE3 is overrated
Ok Doug, how about source? :P
::edit::
I think I've figured it out
1) Skin is too shiny
2) Forehead is too high
3) Face is too cylindrical
4) The hair is wrong, its too "tall" and it should come down in a slight "V" in the middle
5) His head is slightly too narrow.
I don't think UE3 is overrated. I think it's underused... Anyways...
Well, duke nukem was a "CULT" not because it was a terrific game, but because it was really funny! I remember when u kill a boss (second one i think) u chop his head off, lower your pants, sits on it, open a newspaper and start singing the duke nukem them (as some do in the toilet). That was chocking and funny for the time.
Quoting duke nukem:
"I am here to kick ass and chew bubble gum. And I am out of gum"
hehehe really funny!
ooowww... But that is because that "Commando" look is old fashioned nowadays :)

Not by me.
Well, what do you think about it? I think the monsters look cool (even though we don't see much), but Duke is not that nice.
We'll see...
Classic punchline. I've played every installment of the Duke Nukem franchise since the early 90s. Even the ones on the Nintendo 64. Love the game since it was simple, fast, fun, and above all funny.
He's even still wearing the OG ganster glasses from the early 90s

I will wait patiently for the release of the game, just as I have for the last 10 years.
The longest developing of a game ever.
The longest wait for a game ever.
The most extended releasedate ever.
The longest waiting fanbase ever.
And in the end it would probably suck anyway...

If you look at the brief history over at shacknews, you'll see that TF2 was announced after DNF. I am wondering what they will do with the fact that HL and the likes raised the bar by a good step for FPS. Try to modernize Duke or go for a retro thing (it just seems really corny to have a arch nemesis called Dr. Proton). Also what would the gamers want. (I was in 4th grade when they announced DNF, I didn't really get the whole DN thing, apart from the fact that I liked the game).
Heh this quote is coming from a movie called "They Live" that they used in DN3D : )

i think they should have gone for the keep it under the blanket till its almost finished approach...(i.e. 6th june of the year 2666)
Splinter Cell Double Agent also runs on a modified version of UE 2.5, so running on an old engine doesn't mean anything (of course it is the question whether 3drealms will modify UE 2 that much.)
In many cases it isn't that much the engine that makes the graphics, but more the art direction. (UT 2k4 maybe old, but it's still a beautiful game, (tho be it perhaps since it's one of the few games I can run at max detail) while games such as Sims 2 don't have much of a technical deficit, yet look like something that came from a dog behind (in comparison)).
10 years and they can't make Duke look like Duke, I'm unhappy.
