Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 announced

The new Rainbow Six Vegas game should be on shelves by March 2008.

I've been a massive fan of the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six series ever since they first arrived on PCs. The careful mix of twitch shooting, hilariously awful AI and pointless tactical choices made the game an instant favourite of mine and it was great to see the series slowly advance and streamline itself into the shape it is today.

Granted, there have been some mis-steps on the way, but by and large the Rainbow Six franchise has gone from strength to strength. Combined with good sales too, it's no surprise that a new sequel has just been announced.

Apparently, the new game in the series will be titled Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2, which is quite a mouthful. The game will be developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the same team behind the previous Rainbow Six Vegas game and is set for a tentative March 2008 release.

The new game will be the sixth title in the series and 2008 marks the tenth anniversary for the franchise, which has shipped more than 16 million units worldwide so far.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas took the gaming world by storm in 2006 thanks to its technological advances and gameplay innovations,” said Yves Guillemot, president and chief executive officer at Ubisoft in a press release.

We are convinced that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 will remain a pioneer in the highly competitive first person shooter genre, bringing more of what Rainbow Six fans love to the table.

The new game promises to push the franchise will new gameplay features, enhanced graphics and the usual PR spin. The really good news is that Ubisoft has confirmed there will be new co-op and adversarial game modes available. If that sounds good to you then drop into the forums and let us know what you think.

Sweet, really liked R6 Vegas on the 360, not a huge fan of the PC versions though as I didn't really like the on the rails planning mode it had (not sure if Vegas stuck to this though as I never played it). Reminds me of the original GR (still the best) where you can still use tactics but you're not set in a specific plan.

Vegas is great but tbh is terribly optimized and the multiplayer needs alot of work. Games which say they arn't full and are, loads of bugs which we had to go through like the menu bug, reload bug etc. I genearly dont like how its set up either. But hopefuly they will do a better job and please for the love of god dont use punk buster and if they do get it sorted. In some servers it just randomly kicked people for no reason
