German students will soon have access to the CryEngine 2 and get lectures from the developers themselves.

Crysis is very much the game of the moment and it looks like it's not just gamers who are going to be getting to grips with it over the next few months - the game has just been licensed to students at Hochschule Darmstadt.

The German school has just reached a licensing agreement with CryTek to let pupils have access to the CryEngine 2, according to Gamedaily.

The school will be granted access to the middleware physics engine, as well as the SDK and the team behind the game. Crytek will be offering lectures throughout the year on the topics of game design, level structure and how to create reasonable game concepts.

The school will also use the engine in other areas, allowing students in other disciplines to benefit. Pupils will be taught how to use professional tools for animation, video production, motion capturing and sound design.

Meanwhile, at my secondary school all we had was an Amiga A500+ and an old BBC Microcomputer. Heh, good times.

I see this as being a good thing. Why not use the latest tech on young minds. Let them take it and push farther with it.

Now this would have more substance if they were using the CryEngine 2 for something like teaching physics. The fact that some game design school is trying to licence a next-gen engine doesn't seem all that interesting, apart from the fact that it may be somewhat costly.

I'm studying game design myself, my school just last term switched over from Uneal level editor to Source's Hammer for level design and its a big improvment. Now if only they'd give us some crytek2 to work with.
