Could Supreme Commander be coming to the Xbox 360 in the future?

Supreme Commander is an utterly awesome game and it really lends itself to high-end PCs with dual screen setups. The gameplay is pretty involved and complex too, though never to the degree that it's a problem for a PC RTS fan.

It's a bit odd to think though that the game will be seeing a port to the Xbox 360 and possibly the PlayStation 3 too.

In a recent interview with Pro-G, series creator Chris Taylor saying that's exactly what may happen though. Although the platform hasn't been officially decided they'll probably go with the Xbox 360 - though a PlayStation 3 version isn't to be ruled out.

Personally, I'd like to see a Wii version of the game - it would be, quite frankly, hilarious.

Pro-G were obviously a bit dubious at first and they quizzed Chris on how he thought the console control system could be adapted to suit such a complex RTS game. The bad news is that Chris is typically vague and doesn't offer anything actually concrete, the good news is that at least the man likes football.

"I use the football analogy. The first RTS game was the kick and then we had to take the ball a few more yards down the field every iteration. We're getting closer and closer to that touchdown. We may be a few more iterations of the UI and interface before we get there."

Asked on whether he preferred the 360 or the PS3, Chris admitted that the 360 was the platform of choice.

"Yeah likely. It's a great platform. If you look at pure development economics, it's the platform of choice for moving stuff from the PC. You can get stuff over there economically, very quickly...[On the PS3] the hardware is more complex, but it's not out of the question. It's just more time. As the install base grows and as that market starts to become more understandable to us, like we understand what kind of player is on that platform because we have more data, then it becomes logical that a game like Space Siege would move through the 360, the PS3, heck and probably the Mac."

Reckon console RTS games are the future or should the PC keep hold of one of the few genres where it can out sell other console games? Tell us your thoughts in the forums.

RTS on a console is just so wrong!!!
Sure way to fail the game, unless there are plans for it to support mouse and keyboard on the console
Cant see me trying to control a hoard of units in the 100's with a game pad.

I say, keep street fighter, mortal combat and similar fighters on the console and keep RTS for the pc ;)

You've not looked at the Halo Wars interface then?

RTS games traditionally port horribly to the console market, not enough buttons.

So far I havent seen a good RTS port for console. Back in the days C&C for PS1 was horrible and it hasnt changed much IMO. Lets see how this one turns out.

I wonder if pc playes can play against the console players online. wouldn't be fair to them, but i have no problem with that.

what about the minigame in FF7 that was alright ;)

the only way they *MAY* successes with a console RTS is to design around the console interface. that's why Halo War's interface may seem to work.

but the true way to play a RTS is still on PC, with a 8800GTX :D

Has there ever been a successful RTS for console? Unless there's a different controller, I can't imagine this working.

Being an RTS fan I've always waited with hope for a decent RTS to grace the console market. My dreams were answered back in 98, when the original C&C was ported to the N64. They made it all 3d, and it was absolutely fantastic to play. The only downside was that the N64 didn't support the cutscene movies. The cartridge weighed a tonne though and I believe they used a 256 meg one to hold all the mission objective sound bites.

What were we talking about again?

Maybe they're doing it like the new Civilization?

Of course you forget about the new keyboard plugin widget for the 360 that clips onto the base of the controller, that would give us all the buttons we need.

And its nice too.

If there is no Keyboard and mouse support, then forget it. Or if there is no mouse and MSN pad support, then forget it.

You cant play these games with joypads, and how many poor sales on the console versions is it going to take before they realise its all down to the input devices that make up those extra sales.

I would of got C&C 3 on 360 if it supported keyboard and mouse. The console has the power, just not the correct input device.

My PC wont play Supreme commander and Id love to be able to get it on 360 but I doubt it will happen.

Atleast the PS3 version could use a M+K setup (hopefully)

In regards to the 360 port: I personally don't like ports "in general", so tbh I would be in favor of a PS3 version since it would have to be built from the ground up......but that's my opinion.....whether that would affect the game negatively idk...I'm no game developer.....

I've got supreme commander and it's ok.... Can't see it making a big hit on a dull boring console with it's powerful 128mb video card.
