Die Hard 4.0, Ocean's Thirteen, Evan Almighty, and Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer were among the movies being pirated.
Earlier this week, Dutch police raided a clandestine DVD manufacturing plant that was making 900 copies of pirated movies an hour. A DVD press was seized along with movies such as
Die Hard 4.0,
Ocean's Thirteen,
Evan Almighty, and
Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer and CDs composed of a compilation of popular chart music.
The factory, which was located in Velddriel, southeast of Amsterdam, had possibly gotten its manufacturing presses from a legitimate plant that had declared bankruptcy.
"
This raid shows that in 2007 physical piracy continues to damage the entertainment industries," said John Kennedy, Chairman and CEO of IFPI. "
Here we have a clandestine factory operating in a major western economy, producing huge volumes of product. This is not a petty crime, this is serious organized crime and it is important that the public understands that when they buy pirate product they are sending cash to organized criminals who are almost certainly involved in other areas of serious criminal activity."
The pirated movies were being sold in schools, offices, bars and on the street.
Maybe the recording industry should change its focus and go after those who actually make money from pirating music and movies instead of going after individuals like it currently does.
Have a thought on the matter? Well speak your mind over
in the forums on in the comment section below.
I totaly agree. But they probably are scared to dead for real criminals then your little sister with her mp3 collection..
Sam
...until little "Martje" and "Geert" from Duivendrecht use their school's free internet connection to download unlimited music from the usenet! LOL!
When o when will the industry learn...
People alway prefer to cheap things.
It's most probably that the piracy would last a very long time.
Where do they get this bullshit?! Ok I understand the big crime part about a piracy factory, thats just insane, but heck, why do they associate them to homicides and drug dealers and thieves?
Tell me about it, if everyone's honest I bet 99% of us use torrent and p2p software and we're not all coke sniffing child molesting throat slittin mofos either
I agree with the four first statements.. :D
It's the child molesting throat slittin mofos I can't stand. :)
...ooo fancy. Not like that pic doing the rounds (the one with a room full of towers each full of DVD burners)
but if one pirate can get hold of a press then another can too.
Course the industry likes to mix up everything and get some bad press for file sharing this way too.
BUT - We really need to understand that these kind of professional activities ARE certainly often connected to professional criminals. Some people just don't care where their money comes from, and while you certainly MAY NOT compare the small "DVD dealer" to the small drug dealer, the big guys behind such an operation (you need some knowhow to get such a fab running after all) are more likely than not involved in some other criminal activities.

if people preferred cheep things there would only be cheep things. its just that smart people know what the vale of things are. A purse is NEVER worth $10,000, sneakers are never worth $300, a suit is never worth $100,000.... just like us that build computers instead of paying the $14,000 (falcon had one this much) for a computer that could be built for under $4,000 (with even better liquid cooling). you try and explain how labor to put it together is worth $10,000.
