A second official report has found no evidence linking violent games to the actions of Seung Hui Cho.

The official report into the tragic Virginia Tech massacre has now been completed by a review panel chosen by the state of Virginia. The report, which has been published online for all to read has officially found no link between the actions of the killer, Seung Hui Cho, and violent computer games.

This report further corroborates the findings of the federal government which were completed in June and also found no link of any kind between games and the real-life actions of the killer.

In fact, the only computer game named in the report that it is known Cho definitely played is Sonic The Hedgehog.

The full report has a section dealing with the mental health history of Cho and explicitly points out that non of the games he owned "were war games or had violent themes." Instead, the report points out that Cho was more fond of basketball, collecting figurines and playing with remote controlled cars.

Although there was never any evidence at any point to suggest that Cho had even played violent games, let alone that they had influenced his actions, the issue was still given much media coverage after Jack Thompson spoke on FOX News as an 'Expert in school shootings'.

Thompson merely got the ball rolling however and the issue was later picked up (but then removed) in a story on The Washington Post.

Although it is mentioned that Cho used his computer almost constantly, it appears that he used it more for writing than for gaming and may not even have enjoyed violent games at all.

Can violent games cause violent reactions? What measures should be taken to protect society from further atrocities? Drop us your thoughts in the forums.

I think we should just burn all the books so kids wouldn't know what a gun is.

Certainly good to see they seem to have done some thorough investigation into this issue. And certainly nice to see at least one shooting seemingly not linked to computergames at all ...

then we must ban basketball, collecting figurines and playing with remote controlled cars because they make you shoot people.... and also sonic the hedgehog.

Jack Thompson is a very odd man. Strange how he manages to change the playing of a game into 'trained on'. Yes, because 'training' on Doom definitely prepares you for real-life violence.

Moron.

At least this is a step towards realising that games don't make people violent, being nuts makes people violent. We will never know 100% why he did it or why any of them do it, just be thankful for those that survive and remember those who didn't.

Did it really take this long to figure out the guy had life long untreated mental problems...

Im curious what scapegoat for violence was used before games and TV were invented.

My theory, for what it's worth, is here.

Comic books. Movies. Alcohol. Not attending church...

Anyone want to lay odds as to when a retraction is heard from Mr. Thompson?

The only step to realizing rastus' point is the use of common sense instead of seeking out scapegoats and screen time.

he spent alot of time righting so I'm pretty sure he explained why he killed everyone if you got of hold of what he wrote. To me that would seem a more logical aproch before blaming games.

Naah, that would be way too sensible. :D
