Shorter, wider. Engadget's rendering of the next Nano based on the removed spy shots.
A new iPod seems to hit the shelves every year and this year is no exception. At least that's what the speculation is.
A couple of days ago, Engadget posted a "spy photo" of the next generation of iPod Nanos. Comments spread across the Internet ranging from the typical "
I love it" (not many of those) to the "
OMG!
It is so ugly!" (the vast majority).
The spy photo showed an iPod shorter, yet wider then the Nano in a multitude of muted-pastel colours.
Apple stayed silent on the matter and everything was speculation, but that speculation started carrying just a bit more weight then normal yesterday when Engadget
received notification from Apple's legal team to remove the picture. Apple claimed that the photo was "stolen from the company."
Whether or not this shorter, fatter iPod is the real deal will remain to be seen for now or at least until the
rumoured Apple media event next month.
This rumoured media event will be where Apple will usher in a complete OS redesign of the entire iPod line. The Pixo-influenced OS of current iPods should be replaced by a derivative of Mac OS with a possibility of a
full screen iPod similar to the iPhone also being unveiled.
So right now, we're sitting in a massive heap of speculation but as with the majority of Apple rumours that make wind across the web, these may turn out to be true as well. Time will tell if Apple does hold that event next month.
Had enough variations of the iPod yet or have they just not nailed your liking? What do you think about this new Nano? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below or over
in the forums.
Im still not too sure about the design as it looks like a gimped version of my 5th gen unit.
A few seconds later, and damn.
Seems silly to change them so soon anyway - they've only been out for a year.
As an aside, you guys seem to be covering the Apple news a bit more than usual, not that I'm complaining.
The rounded iphone look doesn't work for me though. Looks cheap.
However; if it's thin enough to fit in your wallet.. dam! I just might have to get one.
Sorry to be haughty, but people who think this is important need a holiday in Cambodia.
As leak proof as a sieve
If I ever get an iPod, I'll snatch up a first or second-gen nano - that is just plain ugly.
If anyone can make a better player, I would like to see it.
I'm not selling my 1st gen nano for that ugly piece of crap
This is a technology-orientated website. What are you expecting, exactly?
In any case, Apple essentially own the market when it comes to the small, lower-capacity MP3 players. When I was looking at getting one (Xmas 2006), the only competitor worthy of a look was the SanDisk Sansa. I was tempted, but in the end the iPod Nano seemed nicer. I'm not an Apple fan by any means, but if they're making the best product in that segment, so be it.
Sadly that last statement doesn't seem to hold true anymore, as far as this new Nano is concerned.
Your idea of a 'better' player is going to be different from most peoples'. No doubt that being an iriver product the h120 is technically a decent player, but as far as looks and ease of use go, it's been thrashed. Still, dual headphones, line in and fm tuner? Someone should set this thing up on a date with a Zune and see what they make...

Maybe this is a new type of iPod, a small version of the current iPod video, in between the video and nano?
A flash memory based video? Doesn't make much sense, but people who don't want to spend a huge amount of cash on the iPhone might buy it.
they cant use the official pic or apple can ask them to take it down
