Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness wasn't very good, as I recently found out when I tried the game as part of a Metaboli review. Tomb Raider: Legend and Anniversary though were excellent. Legend in particular is a title I still return to now and then for some quick platforming action.

Apparently, my high opinion of the recent games and dismissal of Core's last attempt at a Tomb Raider game is something shared by Ian Livingstone of Eidos. Ian recently sat down with the guys over at Spong and talked about the future of the franchise.

“The next Tomb Raider is well in development now. It was a very bold move for us to move the development from [developer] Core over to Crystal Dynamics in the US. It was a difficult decision, but we had to do it, because of Angel of Darkness not meeting our expectations.”

Ian also touched on the future of the Tomb Raider movies. Although the option is still there for Paramount and Angelina Jolie, the project hasn't got off the ground after the disappointing reaction to the second Tomb Raider film:

"They’re [Paramount] talking at the moment about who to get in as a scriptwriter, so it’s a fair way from the green light stage. I think they are also watching how well the latest two games are doing – Legend and Anniversary – which prove the fact that there is still this huge fanbase for Lara Croft. So, hopefully, ultimately, that will trigger their commitment to green light the next movie.”

While it would be an understatement to say that we're very excited about how the sequel to Legend may turn out, we're less concerned with the film side of things. Game-to-film conversions have a history of being awful and the cinema-based adventures of Miss Croft are no exception.

Which was your favourite Tomb Raider game and why? What did you think to the films? So much discussion to be had and, thankfully, plenty of room in the forums to do it in.
