Condemned: Criminal Origins was a love-it-or-hate-it-game which, when it was released as a launch title for the Xbox 360, polarised gamers into two camps. Some loved the surival-horror feel and the visceral, in-your-face combat. Others hated the brevity and frustrating storyline, the depth of which was never fully revealed.

Still, the game proved successful enough to spawn a sequel and a tie-in film has been rumoured to be in the works on and off since 2005. Monolith and Sega signed a deal with Warner Bros. to make a film inspired by the game and Kurt Sutter, co-executive producer of The Shield, was drafted in to write the script.

Of course, that was all way back in 2005 and not much has been heard of the film since then.

With the sequel fully under way though, interest has been renewed in the film and SegaNerds took it upon themselves to see just what was going on and drag some answers out of Sutter.

"I actually just closed a deal to do another big rewrite of the script. There is a director attached. I can’t say who until Warners makes it official. But the project is very much alive (especially after the surprising success of THE 300)." Sutter told the site, before going on to outline just how the game and the film are planned to co-exist.

"As far as the story, I cannot give any details, but i think we’ve done something very unique...There will be some parallels, but it is not a movie BASED ON the game. It’s INSPIRED BY the same source material."

It begs the question though - can a movie based on a game possibly be any better than a game based on the film, the results of which are universally bad? If you've got an answer for us then let us know in the forums.
