Scan will soon be selling guaranteed Q6600 G0 processors after popular demand in bit-tech's forums.

We have just received word from Scan that it will be guaranteeing G0 stepping Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processors due to popular request in the bit-tech forums.

Intel’s Core 2 Quad Q6600 currently represents the sweetspot in Intel’s processor line up and, with a bit of overclocking, you’ll be able to push it from its default 2.40GHz clock speed to frequencies in excess of Intel’s current flagship Core 2 Extreme QX6850 processor.

Last week we played around with an older B3 stepping Core 2 Quad Q6600; our results were impressive and seem to fit in line with what others have experienced with the same stepping. G0 is a newer, lower power stepping and that should only mean good things for the chip’s overclockability.

Scan currently doesn’t have any G0-stepping Q6600s in stock, but Scan’s Chris Padidar says that “unlike other retailers, Scan will not be charging any extra for the privilege” when it does have chips in stock. With that in mind, you should be able to pick one (or more) of the G0-stepping Q6600s up sometime in the near future for £168 (inc. VAT), so keep an eye on this page for stock.

Don’t forget that active registered members of the bit-tech community will also receive free UK mainland shipping via the SCAN2BIT-TECH loyalty programme too. For details on how to qualify for this offer, please check out this thread.

Pass your thanks onto Scan for this offer in the forums!

I want one too but they're not selling them G0's here in Belgium :(
Quote The_Pope 30th July 2007, 17:11
Poenanie - I don't think Scan ship to Belgium. But if you *really* want one maybe you can make an arrangement with a UK bit-tech member to order one for you and then ship it to Belgium for you?

If you trust a bit-tech member with £170 .....

Also, £170 for a quaddie ? wow

Not to pick fault, but this has kinda lost the edge, seeing as Hexus has just announced the same news. I cant see any mention that this has been coz bit-techers have demanded it :/

There was a single thread, that ChrisP said it wouldnt be possible, or am i missing something :p

This is great, this means that I can surprise my friend with uber high clock speeds! And cheap too.

There were at least 8-10 requests in the Q6600 thread in the Scan forum and there have been many more people saying "I'm holding out for a G0" or words to that effect in the various other Q6600 threads (including the discussion thread for the Q6600 Overclocking article). I don't read hexus and therefore I don't know how many requests there have been over there, but there has been more than a few requests here, so I'd imagine there were requests on hexus too - put it this way, I would be surprised if there wasn't.

The fact is that quite a few bit-tech readers have requested this, Scan has recognised that there is a significant demand for the product and has satisfied the request.

Oh boy! I was going to by myself a Q6700 but I think I'll plump fpr this one now and splurge the savings on a shiny new P35 board to put it in.

God bless Scan

PS Anoyone heard anything on the new 24" Samsung widescreen monitor yet? The specs look impressive for a sub £400 screen.

They are mixed - there is currently no certainty on whether you get the G0 stepping or the older version. If your not going to overclock or are not after a "silent" PC probably makes little difference to you.

I think I might have to go for this when it arrives. Now off to choose a board.....

I know... I remember paying £520,-- for a pair of Opteron 250's --and that was practically half-price. Fast forward less than four years, and you can get the equivalent of four CPUs in one tidy package for £170,--...

Of course, prices for GPUs are going the other way. :)
Quote Pie_uk 31st July 2007, 15:39
yeah the gpu market is crazy as is the motherboards !

so when will scan just have the GO stepping? i am wanting to buy one very soon
Quote zhangmaster12 31st July 2007, 17:39

Quote Bonze 18th August 2007, 17:37
So, are they shipping only G0 or do we have to wait for an announcement. :?
I'd like to order one soonish.....
Quote ElZog 18th August 2007, 18:11
I believe they will have G0's listed specifically as a separate item. The scan thread said they expect stock on the 28th so we should be able to preorder this coming week.
Quote Bonze 18th August 2007, 20:49
OK - thanks :D
