Earlier this morning sources inside Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers, cited by Digitimes, claimed that AMD's upcoming Phenom processor is delayed until next year.

The sources claimed that AMD would delay the launch so that it could increase yields and also clock frequencies for its upcoming native quad-core Phenom processors in order to improve their competitiveness against Intel's upcoming 45nm Penryn processors.

AMD was quick to rubbish these claims, maintaining that Phenom's launch schedule hasn't changed from the original 2H07 timeframe it has previously talked about.

The company also stated that it hasn't been in contact with motherboard manufacturers concerning a delay to the schedule.

Initially, AMD will introduce four Phenom-based processors of which three will be quad-core parts. One will follow on from AMD's recent tradition and will be a flagship FX-series part, the FX-80.

The other two quad-core chips will be the Phenom X4 GP-7100 and GP-7000. The final processor in AMD's next-generation desktop processor launch will be the dual-core Phenom X2 GS-6550.

All I can say is roll on Phenom launch, because I for one can't wait to see how they're going to perform.
