The Burning Crusade, now available through the tubes.

Blizzard has decided to make the popular World of Warcraft expansion pack, The Burning Crusade, available for download on the internets.

World of Warcraft is fairly well known for its ability to take over your life. This move will allow current WoW fanatics to continue playing the game while they're downloading the expansion pack.

Even better, there's no need to walk outside, or even downstairs to collect the post to get hold of TBC.

We suspect that this move is aimed at current WoW players, rather than those new to the game, as the download option is available on your WoW account page.

Have you left your machine since you installed The Burning Crusade? Let us know in the forums.

Hahaha, those tubes...

Yeah, WoW does take over lives. I know that first hand.

another excuse for the fat guy to not get to the shop and walk a little.

Cool. Since it's an MMO, it makes sense to have it downloadable. :)

Is the use of the extra 's' on the end of internet accidental or deliberate?

I assume you still have to pay for a burning crusade key so you can upgrade your account.

*bangs head against wall*

You should have seen the complaints on the wow forums in the months running up to the TBC launch, many people were crying out for this.

So many cardboard boxes, CD's, printed materials and so on were made and shipped to many customers that didn't really need them. people had pre-orders cancelled/late and some countries simply didn't get enough copies to meet demand...

and a few weeks after the launch they release a download service...

*arg!* :(

This was similar idiocy to the HL2 CD edition coming with CD copy protection that was pointless, as you had to activate it online anyway :P

I'd imagine the main reason they did so was so they knew what the upper limit of new signups would be on the day of release (so they would know they had the hardware to handle the amount of new players.)

Not that it really worked, mind you, since the night of release was an action packed evening of crashing world servers and unbelievable lag. What fun! Way to plan, Blizzard!

But still. It was probably the idea.

Brilliant, made me chuckle.

I didn't sleep for three days from the moment I left the release party. I DID, however, take a break twice to take a shower and continue. So at least my hygiene is still there.

seems kinda pointless aiming this at current players, i don't know of a single WoW player that didn't run out and buy it on release or the day after

Quote AClark 6th February 2007, 00:19
Hell I won't be playing in a year or two (unless they release the expansions yearly as they hope too) but I still play **** loads... too much! I really should stop playing as much as I do, it can't be good for me.

Anyway, I hope people have to pay for this downloaded version otherwise I've watsed £30 on a box. :P
