The upscaling problems will be addressed... we just don't know when.
Sony Computer Entertainment America has acknowledged the
upscaling problems we reported last week and is reportedly working on a fix for the problem.
GameDaily BIZ had the chance to speak with a SCEA representative, and the following statement
was issued by the spokesperson:
"A small number of older High Definition television sets found in the United States only have 1080i inputs for HD signals. Those televisions will currently only play some PS3 titles at 480p resolution. PS3 games render images at either 720p or 1080p for High Definition, and you need 720p input on the TV to play select games that do not support 1080p. This is an issue on the side of the individual television sets, which do not accept 720p input, so when a game outputs an HD signal only at 720p, these select TVs have to display the game at 480p instead."
The representative gave no indication as to when the issue would be fixed, but did assure GameDaily BIZ that the problem would be fixed. I guess it's a case of
it'll be fixed when it's fixed...
Alos I have not HD TV so still not a problem :p
This is a disgraceful response.
They have basically said it's the consumers fault for buying a HDTV that does not accept a 720p input. Now if this wasn't bad enough, Sony themselves manufactured such hardware!
It's almost like "I suppose we'll have to fix this then..."
If I was a Sony consumer I'd disgusted with the arrogant and petulant attitude.

It should use any HD resolution that is used the majority of tv sets, if not in all tv sets.
It could be argued that it's the problem of the people who wrote the games to support only one output resolution.
Phil
Considering it only affects some games suggests that it is the developers fault not Sony's.
