NVIDIA has told its loyal fans that it's next-gen gaming platform will launch at a LAN party on November 7th & 8th.

NVIDIA recently sent out a newsletter to its Club SLI members, unveiling the company's plan to launch its next generation GPU and chipset at a LAN party in the second week of November.

The email details plans for GeForce LAN 3, which is set to take place on November 7th and 8th in the San Fransisco Bay Area. It starts with the following teaser:

"In 2004 NVIDIA hosted GeForce LAN and launched the GeForce 6800 in front of 300 gamers.

In 2005 NVIDIA hosted GeForce LAN 2 and launched the GeForce 7800 in front of 400 gamers.

Next month, NVIDIA hosts an unprecedented 600-person, 2-day LAN party, and will launch its next-generation gaming platform!

Following the link at the bottom of the email takes you to PDXLAN's site, we were greeted with more details:
  • Witness the launch of NVIDIA's next generation Gaming PLATFORM (GPU and MCP together!)
It seems that NVIDIA is telling its loyal fans that it will not only be launching its new flagship GPU, codenamed G80, but also its next-generation chipset too. I love this, instead of a "press" showcase. Nvidia deliver the goods to the people (gamers) that really want to look and play with it. And also a new chipset.

More interesting is the launch of a new MCP. Could this be a replacement for the 570 or the 590? Could we see higher overclocks?

hmmm, I find it strange that they allready want to change the MCP...I mean it isn't really that old....should it really be changed??

I wonder how quickly I'd get kicked out if I showed up with my ATI-powered rig...

I think this launch is a great idea, really. They're bypassing the companies and going straight to the gamers. They'll probably give away several cards at the party and get tons of hype in the air, especially when the players go home and post on all the forums they freqent that G80 rocks.

Still, though, isn't this a bit close to the launch of the 7950 GX2? Is nVidia trying to catch up to ATI in numbers, or something?

they'll probably piss everyone off and just show the insides of a ps3 lol. it is technically a "next gen" gpu, even if its really a couple of generations old anyway.

But props to nVidia for keeping up with the trend they started of hard launches instead of stacks of documents.
