Project - Lian Li V2000

by corso13
Worklog: Here

We've seen plenty of mods focussing purely on the exterior of a case but Project - Lian Li V2000 by corso13 is something else. There's no paint involved for starters and he's not actually adding anything to exterior or cutting any panels. There's no acrylic involved no powdercoating and no etching. So how on earth has corso13 found his way into Mod of the Month then?

Things started to look interesting when, after one year of waiting, he found a good deal on a second hand Lian Li V2000 (very popular case at the moment, even I'm playing with one!). His project log is mainly photo based with one line in his introduction saying 'lets the pics talk from themself'. Strangely they do and, in fact, they don't just talk they scream! If you think lapping your CPU is cool, wait until you see this.

The case here is the familiar Lian Li V2000, a black one although it doesn't retain its black look for long. Personally, that swimming pool would prove to be quite a distraction too. The case is a little beaten up but that doesn't stop corso13 carrying on with his work. The right tools for the job here are essentially anything that can sand. In fact there's so much sanding to be done, we certainly wouldn't want to be doing it by hand.

Using a combination of dry and wet sanding with WD40, corso13 proceeded to sand the entire externals of his V2000, painstakingly repeating the process with various sanders to get the finish smoother and smoother...and smoother.

After the final pass, corso13 then proceeded with a polishing machine and buffing cloths. How about that for a shiny finish? It's a massively impressive result and we certainly weren't expecting it! If corso13 had said he'd bolted mirrors to the side of his case we'd probably believe him.

Here are two further photos showing other areas of the case that have received the same treatment. They quite literally look as if they've gone through a multi-stage chroming process. Just look at those reflections! We can't wait to see the finished article.
