The Wet Pi by Phame

Project log: Here
Summary by Phame

The Wet Pi is a fully functional water cooled Raspberry Pi, fitted with a micro pump, water block and reservoir. The water block was cut out of a piece of billet aluminium and took two set-ups. I started to cut the aluminium with a 2.0mm end mill and finished cut it with a 1.0mm end mill.

It took around 3 hours to setup and cut. I polished the underside, with which the block makes contact with raspberry components, with some 2000 grit and 2800 grit wet and dry sandpaper. The pump was purchased from an on-line store that specializes in micro pumps for all types of needs, it pumps at a rate of 700ml a minute. It doesn't seem like a lot but when I tested it I was very surprised! The reservoir is also made out of billet aluminium with an acrylic top.

The aluminium reservoir took around 2 hours to cut and 1 hour for the acrylic, that was quick when you compare the time it took to polish the top and bottom. I still don't know how many hours I sunk into polishing the sides of these blocks. The holders on the back of the Pi were lasered out of 3.0mm aluminium sheet. And they use one of the two mounting holes in the RPi board. One of the other mounting holes is taken up to screw the water block to the board. The aluminium was then plated with 24 carat gold.

I am very pleased with the overall outcome of this build, and very pleased with the comments I have been receiving from the community. Thank you very much for putting on this competition guys, glad so many people entered there amazing work!
