The Inner Cage (con't)

The motherboard tray was to be bolted to the new case back using the same countersunk bolts that I chose to use throughout the mod. The PSU was going to be mounted where the old HDD racks used to be, at the top rear of case. As the case is rounded, any PSU I used couldn’t go flat onto the rear of the case. Hence I used a small extension lead and plug. A hole was cut in the rear of the case and epoxy putty used around the edges.

I also cut a hole for the dual pumps. At this time, any imperfections were filled with epoxy and then sanded down to a smooth finish.

After all the modifications were done, the whole case was sanded down using an orbital sander using 250 grit paper for metal to get it ready for the undercoat. Then, I applied a self-etching primer and finally automotive paint.

The holes had to be individual unclogged in between the 2 coats of primer to prevent them completely filling up.

Four coats applied. Let it cure for a few days then sanded to remove the orange peel effect – up to 2500 grit and then buffed with 3M Perfect-It III to get the mirror shine. Then, there was more cleaning with a water hose and yet more in the individual holes with rolled up alcohol swabs...so many holes!
