This fits effortlessly over the 18awg cable WCUK also sent us and is available in 1m increments from its website. Given that your average 24-pin ATX connector is around 40cm long, you'll need 10m of the stuff to braid just this cable. At around 70p per metre, you're probably looking at around £30-40 to deal with your average PSU.

This is perhaps where the 18awg wire comes in. Unless you're dealing with a large case, chances are that in addition to several cables you simply don't need (more if you have a captive PSU or one that's only semi-modular), quite a few cables have a significant amount of slack. If you're building a micro-ATX or mini-ITX system, it's likely some cables will literally be twice as long as you need them to be.

The 18awg wire is exactly the same stuff your PSU uses already, and Watercooling UK also offers the standard connector pins. So apart from being able to create your own extensions, you could also trim the existing cables right back to their roots, then create your own using the 18awg wire. It's an intriguing possibility - we'd be tempted to do away with braid altogether and just use coloured 18awg wire colour coordinated to our PC. The wire costs less than £5 for 10m and this would be all that's needed to deal with a 40cm 24-pin ATX connector.

The extension cables on offer have been expertly put together and come in a variety of colours too - both the braid and heatshrink are colour-coordinated. They're made to lengths generally adhering to typical amounts you'd need and that would be exposed in modern cable tidying, typically 30cm, and they even include extensions for your front panel connectors too.

Conclusion

All the gear is top quality and you'll only need the usual PSU modding tools and cable crimpers/strippers to finish the job. It's the first time we've seen actual 18awg cable being offered in a variety of colours and all the gear you need to use it in the same place. Cost-wise, the Cable Modders gear isn't any more expensive than other brands either, so if you're serious about modding your PSU, then it should definitely be on your short list.
