1000W of Modular Wattages

It's got the same look and feel as other Corsair power supplies - the black "ruggedised" feel with Corsair logo on the sides are resistant to fingerprints and general scuffs and scrapes. The logo isn't in your face either, and generally Corsair continues to make a happy medium in style that should please a lot of people.

At 1,000W, the model is also longer and heavier than lower wattage PSUs, so if you're mounting one in a case we'd highly recommend at least an extra support bar or a case where it's mounted in the bottom so the centre of gravity is lower.

The modular connectors are very clearly labelled, even according to 12V rails. There's no need for a rainbow of colours, instead Corsair keeps everything nicely within its blue and black theme with the plastic modular connectors - it's enough differentiation without looking like something you'd give to a two year old to learn what shapes fit in what holes. Mind you, that would be a true geek toy...

Like said, the HX1000W has two 12V rails - these are then each converted into 3.3V and 5V respectively in a DC-DC conversion to increase the efficiency, that's why each pair together can use 500W at most. In fact, like all high wattage CWT model derivatives (Thermaltake included for example) it's actually two PSUs in one split right down the middle, cooled by a single 14cm fan above them.

The plastic modular connectors are positioned so you can easily get to the clips and to a degree they are well manufactured to fit pretty smoothly without burred edges, however we did find that the quality of build wasn't quite perfect as we unintentionally managed to deform one of them in the short time of testing.

Despite this, the connectors are very securely installed - they don't wiggle or come out of the socket when you attempt to unplug a cable without unclipping it first.
