Iiyama’s had 120Hz gaming screens before, but the GB2488HSU might well be their best effort yet. This 24-inch model is competitively priced, attractively designed and it delivers very good value and performance.

Like Asus’ VG248QE, the GB2488HSU eschews a VGA connector, but does come with two rather than one HDMI connectors, as well as the all-important DisplayPort and dual-link DVI inputs. The screen has built-in speakers and, more importantly, a USB hub. It’s fitted to a height-adjustable stand and offers a pivot mode to swivel to portrait orientation too.

In our test results, we see a somewhat too high colour temperature, but surprisingly good results for colour. There is room for improvement when it comes to grayscale accuracy, however. The maximum brightness is very high, but alas so is the minimum, resulting in a very disappointing contrast ratio of just 657:1.

The good news is that uniformity is very good, as well as viewing angles from all directions, values we more readily associate with IPS panels. The gamma value is definitely on the low side, but it's acceptable and a far cry from the terrible values thrown out by the BenQ 24-inch screen. Response times are very good out of the box and can be further increased using overdrive, but we would recommend using that in moderation at most.

By and large the ProLite GB2488HSU is a great performer for the price and an excellent choice if you’re in the market for a 120/144Hz screen.
