Fractional difference would be the term we'd use to describe the core gaming difference between nForce 680i SLI and 780i SLI - at most the difference seems to be less than a frame per second across the board. There's absolutely no noticeable difference, even between these and the Abit IX38 Quad GT in single card mode. You'd get more out of overclocking or investing in a faster CPU or graphics card, and unless you want to upgrade to Penryn there's absolutely no difference between PCI-Express 2.0 and 1.1 on the nForce 780i SLI.

For virtually no performance difference, is it worth the extra power consumption? The extra Nvidia features might be nice on paper but the nForce 680i SLI was a guzzling beast to start with and it looks like the nForce 780i SLI just adds another mouth to feed, especially under load. In comparison, despite what we've said about the Intel X38 being more power hungry than its P35 sibling, it looks fantastic compared to the nForce boards.
