Gigabyte RAMDISK-Box
Interested in a RamDisk but don’t have a spare PCI slot, you could grab one of these new 5.25” Ramdisk-Boxes instead. It features the same four DIMM slots, SATA port and backup battery as the PCI version, but is now powered by a molex instead of the PCI slot. Internally, it’s still limited to 4GB of DDR 400MHz, but the external front panel now has a battery level check and activity LEDs to make it easier to check your data is still powered, and therefore safe.
Geil Memory Sees Red
We were shown some new Geil Black Dragon memory that's due to arrive in 2Gb, 4GB and 8GB kits in the near future. They have glowing red eyes on the dragons faces that adorn the central PCB area. Sure, they lack heatspreaders for uber overclocking, but the demonstration on Vista 64bit showed an 8GB kit can still achieve an impressive 420MHz memory bus at CAS-5. The eyes are an always-on feature, and unfortunately don't flicker on memory access.
Thermaltake Brings Back The Orb
It was one of the legendary coolers of the Pentium 3/Socket A days - the Golden Orb (and later the Chrome). Whilst those coolers had insanely loud fans, this looks set to change with the new editions that feature a range of fan sizes and thick fins, as well as the obligatory Thermaltake look-at-me LEDs that tell you the temperature or whatever else you program it to display.
From top to bottom, the range starts with three containing the largest fans, Blue and Ruby, although the six heatpiped Max is the superior. The Blue FX version has the programmable display LEDs. Finally there are the medium sized Black & Golden coolers and mini-blue for chipsets.
The V1 is a 120mm fan wedged between two sets of V-shaped copper fins with everything connected together with four heatpipes.
