To see how well the Core Duo platform fared in every day usage, we put it through our real-world tests. The Xtreme CTX was up against its predecessor, the Pentium M 2.0GHz Xtreme CT, the FX-60 under the hood of the Evesham Quest A620 and the Xtreme SL SLI notebook. We also pitted it against two desktop systems, the Alienware Aurora 7500 with an FX-60 and our bit-tech reference rig, which has 2GB of OCZ RAM and an Athlon X2 3800+.
Interestingly, the Core Duo is able to completely own this benchmark with an outstanding display of number-crunching ability.
One of the major problems with the last-generation Pentium M platform was the lack of memory bandwidth, especially compared to Athlon architectures. Not so here, the Core Duo is able to play with the big boys when it comes to memory performance.
Not quite such a massive performance improvement here, however.
