Use the force, Luke
One of the main concerns for a game like Lego Star Wars: The Original Trilogy is that it may end up covering old ground and not offer up enough new features. That is probably the reason why the developers have made such an effort ensuring the game will remain fresh with exciting features. Here's a quote direct from their mouths:
"You can also mix and match the body parts of more than 50 playable characters to create one of millions of possible LEGO Star Wars heroes. And on console and Windows platforms, a game save from the first LEGO Star Wars can unlock another 50-plus additional characters for Free Play - that's more than 100 total characters!"

Imagine the scenario: Darth Vader's black helmeted head, on Princess Leia's body with Chewbacca's arms and legs! In truth the ability to pop off your Lego man's head and replace it was all part of the fun when you were a kid - so making this an addition to the game makes perfect sense. It will be very interesting to see what characters the online community is able to come up with.
The developers are also pretty excited about the emphasis on getting vehicles involved in the gameplay. Here's their official word:
Other exciting additions include free-roaming vehicle levels that are no longer on rails, the ability to switch ships at will in Free Play, cool new character-specific attacks and maneuvers, playable mini-kit vehicles, an optional adaptive difficulty mode and more.

The free play mode is, as far as we understand, a kind of sand box area. Which sounds perfect considering the game is based around building blocks. Again, who knows what kind of things people will get up to, and no doubt record for the rest of us to watch online, when they get into free play mode. With the word over at
Gamespy being that you will be able to customise your vehicles as well as your characters - this is a mouth watering prospect.

The game looks set to be released sometime in September, with our predicition being somewhere around the middle weeks, so keep your eyes peeled for our full version review. I imagine
this guy will get rather excited about the new release. He used actual Lego pieces to recreate the entire original trilogy, took pictures of it all and then put it on the web. Ah the wonders of the internet...
