Modern game production dictates that everything released must have multiplayer functionality, regardless of development budgets and how appropriate a multiplayer feature might be to a particular title. Although this trend is a headache for many a developer, it can also be a heartache for those who end up becoming particularly attached to a game's multiplayer option as sadly, these features have no guaranteed permanence.

Since its announcement and subsequent inclusion as a pre-requisite to play Battlefield 3, EA’s re-branded online store, Origin, has been causing plenty of discussion. Opponents argue that Steam already serves as an online digital distribution service, as well as a match-making system, day-one DRM system and game browser; with Steam already providing these services, why must EA force Origin on us?

Technically, the title of this game is James Bond 007: Nightfire, but I really don’t want to have more than one colon in the title than I have to.
Anyway. I have something embarrassing to admit about this game, namely that I decided to buy it based on just one single feature, which I’d read about in a PC Gamer article – the ability to don x-ray specs. More specifically, the ability to use those x-ray specs to take a peek at ladies’ underwear.
Yes, that’s all it took and, no, you can’t make me feel any more ashamed about it than I already am. It was a simple lapse of taste on my part, that lead to me over imagining the depth of the game. Surely, if the developers have added that kind of feature then you’ll be able to do all sorts of James Bond type stuff!
Actually, no, you couldn’t.

It seems that this week is Dragon Age
week - Joe's put up his Dragon Age Hands-on Preview
and I received my review copy of the game's prequel novel Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne
yesterday. I've been pondering how exactly I'm going to review it ever since.
The issue is that our reviews usually follow a fairly tight formula: here's a product, it costs £X, does the performance and features it offers mean it's worth that price? The issue is when you're trying to review a product where your judgements will be largely subjective - making it tricky to definitively say whether it's worth spending time with or not. And a review that's not definitive fails to be a useful review.

It might be getting cold of late, but here’s Episode 24 of the Custom PC podcast to keep you warm. Well, your ears at least. Clive is joined by Staff Writers Antony Leather and Mark Mackay (whose surname he still can’t pronounce, despite a Derran Brown-like metal memory image) plus CPC Editor Alex Watson. Up to debate are the stupidity of DRM and the genius of Steam, plus why Vista’s second Service Pack is both very important and completely pointless.
The games chart springs a few surprises, with Wrath of the Lich King (which Clive also can’t pronounce) dropping down the chart rapidly while Football Manager 2009 reigns supreme. Call of Duty: World at War gets a kicking by Alex (who has found time to play it) while Clive talks at length about the joys and frustrations of virtual football management. It really is enough to make you do a Keano sometimes, but then your 18-year old wonder kid goes and knocks in a brace and all is well.
