FiveWood wouldn't be a great project if it overlooked boring and mundane things such as the PSU, which received a special casing (above).


The drive bays took three separate design attempts before Chris found one that he wanted to stick with. However, the effort pays off with the unique contrast in his wood choices. The CD/DVD bays above seem flat now, but wait until they're stained!


The 3.5" bays went through the same basic design process as the 5.25" ones, complete with walnut side panels. The completed design is meant to hold five drives.


Of course, just slapping a drive bay like this into the case and fastening it with glue seems so...ordinary. So Chris came up with a little different plan that allowed some greater flexibility in both design and functionality.


The final drive bay mounting suspends the drive bay in the case and allows it to be rotated 90 degrees to insert new drives. That means that the chassis is not only tool-less, but it doesn't even require minor disassembly to add or remove drives!
