Lian Li has unveiled its latest mini-ITX chassis, the brushed-aluminium PC-Q01, ahead of its UK launch later this month, featuring an L-shaped side-panel to make hardware installation as simple as possible.

Designed, the company claims, for small office and home PC use, the PC-Q01 is a budget-friendly box which boasts compatibility with mini-ITX and mini-DTX motherboards without sacrificing support for higher-end add-in hardware. Standard ATX power supplies of up to 210mm in length fit perfectly, as do add-in graphics boards of the same length; CPU coolers of up to 90mm in height are also supported, after which it would foul the PSU which is positioned to the side of the vertically-oriented motherboard.

The boxy chassis measures 200mm wide, 275mm high and 242mm deep and is constructed in Lian Li's usual aluminium for an overall 1.57kg weight before hardware is fitted. Although it lacks externally-accessible drive-bays - instead featuring an entirely solid front panel - the case supports a pair of 2.5" hard drives or one 2.5" and one 3.5" at the front and the same again in the base for a total of four storage devices. Two expansion slots are available at the rear, and the front of the case includes two USB 3.0 ports and HD Audio connectors.

The interior of the case is accessed via a tool-free side panel which curves to cover the top of the case in an L-shaped arrangement. This, Lian Li claims, makes installation and maintenance of hardware easier than in cases with a fixed top-panel - especially important given the case's small dimensions. Interestingly, the case includes no fans as standard although the bottom two hard drive mounts can be sacrificed to mount an intake fan if required.

Lian Li has confirmed that stock of the PC-Q01 will arrive in the UK in mid-May, at a price of £39 in black only. No other colours have yet been confirmed.
