Jack Thompson is generally viewed as a bit of a bad guy in gaming circles because of the one-man crusade he has lead against violence in games, but it seems he was just a bit misunderstood the whole time. Jack is more of a lover than a fighter, as revealed by Kotaku.

Kotaku's Brian Crecente asked Jack Thompson what he thought of the whole SEXbox scandal which has broken out over EA's Mass Effect. The game, which features a short and non-explicit sex scene at one (optional) point in the huge 30 hour adventure, has been derided publicly on American news channel Fox News.

The report, which saw guests making outrageous claims about a game they admitted they had never played, was later copied by conservative columnist Kevin McCullough who described the game as 'virtual orgasmic rape'.

McCullough has since come out and apologised (kind of) and Cooper Lawrence has publicly apologised after gamers started sabotaging her Amazon rating by way of protest.

Jack meanwhile is eager to distance himself from the whole affair, telling Crecente that "The guy who shot his mouth off about it had no idea what the Hell he was talking about."

When asked if he was OK with Mass Effect, which featured in our Top 10 Games of 2007, Thompson said "Of course. This contrived controversy is absolutely ridiculous. Report that, why don't you?"

Will do, Mr Thompson.

What do you reckon to the whole "OMG! Sex! Games!" debate, juvenile and pointless though it is? Let us know in the forums.
