Microsoft has confirmed the Xbox One release date and price at its press conference at E3.

The new console will be available in November and will cost $499USD, $499euros and £429. While the exact date wasn't specified, the release date of the new Halo is 5th November so it is likely to be before on on that date.

These prices will be higher than many people were hoping, as rumours had suggested a loss-leading price of around £250. There was also no mention of a subsidised option, with the initial cost offset by long term Xbox Live Gold subscriptions.

Microsoft also revealed some more details about the SmartGlass feature of the Xbox One, showing how the tablet/mobile phone app will allow users to start games, setup multiplayer games, view fellow player's stats and watch games clips.

Said game clips will be available instantly to all users via the console's built in DVR capability.

Also announced was a new version of the Xbox 360 that has a redesigned outer shell that fits in more with the styling of the Xbox One. Internally it is exactly the same as the existing console but now the exterior has straight sides and a matt/gloss split finish like the Xbox One.

Excited by the new Xbox One or is £429 just a bit too high?
