Microsoft has officially confirmed that it is now recruiting staff to work on a game set in the Halo universe with Peter Jackson.

Peter Jackson, who directed such classic films as Brain Dead and Bad Taste before moving on to low-budget horror flicks like The Lord of the Rings trilogy, has long been a fan of Halo and was previously confirmed to be involved in creating two new games for Microsoft set in the series. True, that confirmation came a long, long time ago and in a galaxy far, far away, but Microsoft has apparently on just started work on the project.

The confirmation from Microsoft comes after a recruitment advert was posted by Microsoft asking for developers to come forward to work with "external luminary" on a project which would "help develop a new experience in the Halo universe."

Naturally, where Microsoft intimated, MTV probed and a confirmation was later given that this was indeed a joint project with Peter 'I Kick Ass For The Lord' Jackson.

"Microsoft Game Studios has been hard at work collaborating with Peter Jackson and Bungie on the development of [a Peter Jackson-helmed Halo project]," said Microsoft.

"At this time, it's necessary to grow the internal team to keep pace with development. Bungie will continue to remain involved in multiple aspects of the Halo Universe with Microsoft Game Studios."
