The 21st Century is all for healthy living and it looks like the latest must have gadget for the 'get-fit' generation is the Nintendo Wii after a young man was able to lose 9lbs in 6 weeks by simply playing Wii Sports.

The blogger, who posted all his results here, did nothing to change his normal day to day life. Instead he simply added 30 minutes of Wii Sports and logged down all his results.

Not only did his weight drop by 9lbs but he visibly looked more toned. On top of that his body mass index dropped slightly and his waist size went from 34" to 31".

The tester also did some experiments on which game provided the highest calorie loss. He found that boxing was the most productive, burning an average of 125 calories in 15 minutes. A 15 minute game of bowling would take up 77 calories whilst tennis would see him 92 calories lighter.

His body fat percentage also saw a reduction as did his heart rate. All in all its quite remarkable that the Wii has been able to have such quick effects with such minimal effort. For all those planning on losing a few pounds though be warned, the Wii Exercise expert had this to say in his blog:

One of those issues that has gotten a lot of media attention is something dubbed “Wii elbow“, this seems to occur after your first few sessions of playing Wii Sports. I have to say I was not immune, my first 3-5 days were brutal. I was sore from shoulder to wrist, I even went as far as purchasing an Icy/Hot patch to sooth my pain. I remember sitting at work and just massaging my shoulder for hours, it really made me sore. I suppose this effect occurs when starting any new physical activity outside of your daily routine, so it’s really not an amazing discovery or anything, just a testament to the physical strain Wii Sports actually puts on your body.

So, there you have it, proof that playing a Wii can make you fitter. Will you be taking the Wii exercise test? Let us know in the forums.
