GeForce GTX 760 Overclocking

We were very pleased to find our GTX 760 2GB review sample was open to some pretty hefty overclocking, although Nvidia continues to rule the card’s voltage with an iron fist. We were only able to add a pitifully small 15mV regardless of OC application, but this didn’t hamper our OCing efforts. Right away we were able to raise the card’s boost curve by 150MHz, pushing the base clock to 1,135MHz and the peak boost to a mighty 1,265MHz.

The memory proved open to some higher frequencies too and we eventually settled on pushing this up to 1,622MHz (6.5GHz effective), resulting in a peak theoretical memory bandwidth of 208MB/sec!

Our overclock was easy to apply and saw performance go well beyond that of a stock GTX 670 2GB

We hit these speeds with a stock card and cooler and with the power allowance at 115 per cent and the thermal target set to 95°C and only +15mV to the VCORE, so we can’t wait to see how far custom-cooled AIB models can go. From our initial testing, a peak boost clock of 1,300MHz isn’t out of the question. Our stock card’s temperatures did rise above the previous 80°C threshold though, as did the cooling fan’s RPM, so a custom cooler is recommended if you plan on running this sort of overclock on a day-to-day basis.

In our benchmarks, the results were very pleasing, as our overclocked GTX 760 2GB surged beyond a stock GTX 670 2GB in Unigine Valley by over 140 points. In Crysis 3 we saw a ten per cent increase in minimum frame rate to produce a very quick 45fps minimum frame rate at 1,920 x 1,080 and a minimum frame rate of 39fps in Battlefield 3 at 2,560 x 1,600 shows it’s no slouch at higher resolutions either. When you compare the performance to that of the GTX 770 2GB, it’s easy to forget that there’s a £130 price difference between these two cards.
