Computex 2015 - Phanteks

Phanteks has announced two new editions of the popular EVOLV ITX chassis, its sole dedicated mini-ITX case. It will now be available in black with a red interior (where the finish is better than our poorly lit photo suggests) for the same price as the original and in an all white version, which will retail for $10 more due to the increased complexity of the paint job.

The company also announced two brand new cases to coincide with Computex 2015; the Enthoo EVOLV ATX, which we have already reviewed here, and the Enthoo Pro M. This latter one has the same interior design as the EVOLV ATX but uses plastic and steel external panels rather than aluminium. As a result, it comes in at a significantly lower cost - $80 to be precise. It does lose a few other features, but thankfully it is fully protected against dust, with easily accessible filters on the front, bottom and roof panels. There are no metal 3.5/2.5in drive bays for use in the main cavity, but there are still two places where you can mount 3.5in drives in the cage at the front of the bottom section, and you can still buy the metal drive trays separately if you need. Phanteks has added a single bay ODD cage this time too, but there's no PWM fan hub; again, this can easily be purchased separately.

Lastly, Phanteks showed off its PSU Power Splitter, an accessory design for the Enthoo Mini XL dual system chassis. This effectively allows you to turn one PSU into two, by giving you extra motherboard and CPU power outputs. Previously, installing two systems in the Mini XL involved installing an SFX PSU in the main section just in front of the mini-ITX system's graphics card. This looked a bit messy and had issues with graphics card clearance and fan orientation, all of which the Power Splitter solves, as it's small enough to be hidden away behind the motherboard tray. You can still power on and off your two systems separately, but you will need a PSU with a wattage high enough to run both systems.
