Computex 2015 - ADATA

ADATA had a large focus on Apple and mobile accessories. Starting with the first, the company is developing solutions for both Type-C USB (since the latest Macbook comes with just a single such connector) and the Apple Lightning connection. ADATA had a trio of Type-C adaptors on display - Type-C to legacy USB, to mini-Displayport and to VGA and legacy USB. It also had an external SSD that takes advantage of the USB 3.1 standard's high speeds.

For the Lightning connector, ADATA offers a cable with a bundled cable tie and highly durable connector. Somewhat more interesting is the SD card reader, which supports read and write functionality rather than just read. It allows you to transfer files to and from the device and the built in codec means you can play .mp4 files directly from it. Also shown was a flash drive and a Lightning connector battery back with built in, mechanically retractable earphones.

ADATA is not a NAND manufacturer itself but it does still exist in the SSD business. The more interesting product on display was its PCI-E 3.0 x4 NVMe SSD running at speeds greater than 3GB/sec, which is more than Intel's SSD 750. It's only a prototype for now, but will be available as both a HHHL add-in card as shown and a 2.5in drive using the SFF-8639 connector, with capacities going all the way to 2TB.

Memory is rarely the most exciting topic, but ADATA did show us a DDR4 module capable of speeds up to 4,000MHz, available with a red, blue or black heatsink.
