Microsoft Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 6000

Cost: Around £25

Microsoft is well known for making some of the finest peripherals in the business. Its mice and keyboards are used and loved by many the world over, with the Intellimouse Explorer being one of the highest rated gaming mice in the business.

Microsoft was one of the first manufacturers to introduce optical technology into its mice with the original Explorer. It has now become one of the first to adopt laser technology, an evolution of optical that promises even greater precision, comfort and accuracy.

We're going to be looking at laser mice and surfaces in detail next week, but in the meantime, we wanted to show you this portable mouse. Called the Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 6000, it's designed for those who often take their notebooks on the go and are fed up of using trackpads.

The mouse features two standard buttons, a side button and a tiltwheel. Handily, the mini dongle for connecting it over USB can be stored on the bottom of the mouse, and there is a very cool eject-compartment in the back for the single AA needed to run.

It's a very small mouse, so those of you used to using your whole hand to use the mouse will find this slightly odd to adapt to - there simply isn't the surface area for you to lay your palm flat on this. It's very much a 'fingertip' mouse, which many of you used to gaming online will appreciate.

If you can get used to moving the mouse with your fingers rather than your hand, you'll find that it's as accurate as it claims to be - a big plus when you're working on the go, when your work surface might not be ideal.

It's a good price, feels comfortable, is ultra-portable and is accurate - what more could you want?
