The base started its life as a couple of pieces of MDF board.

The circles were connected with four wooden dowels, which forms the structural base. Before we went and applied the sides, we needed to attach a way to access the components inside - for instance, making the motherboard tray slide! The distance was measured out by a DVD drive and some wood...

...and drawer sliders were fastened in place. An acrylic sheet was mounted on the drawer sliders, which would be the perfect place for hidden components.

The motherboard assembly was then attached to the sliding tray, which allowed the whole computer portion of the case (except for the DVD drive) to be pretty accessible at any time.
