7th Genby grevaeg
His previous project, 6th Gen
made it into the top ten of our prestigious Mod of the Year competition last year and forum user grevaeg is back with another project featuring more than a few hard disks.
6th Gen had 48 hard drives providing 30TB of storage space but as most modders will testify to, a new project usually tries to out-do the previous one and 7th Gen is no exception. This time grevaeg will have a gargantuan amount of storage - 16 2TB Western Digital Green hard disks with another four 1.5TB hard disks and two 300GB 15,000rpm SAS hard disks. that's 38.6TB in total.
Outside of a server room or PC hardware retailer's warehouse, you don't see this amount of storage too often. 7th Gen really is a unique project in our forums. Early renders hint at a silver chassis with red and black exterior. As such, the radiators have been painted to match the colour scheme.
The project started began at the beginning of 2010 but is already starting to take shape with the various modules now standing on their own.
Just like 6th Gen, 7th Gen appears to be a towering beast of a system and there's even talk of a dedicated cooling system for the hard disks. It's definitely one to add to your subscribed list.
