USS EURISKO - Intrepid Mark II Class by ASPHIAXProject Log: Here
Sci-fi is a popular theme for mods and scratch-builds alike. However, it's still rare to see a project with such a theme actually turn into a proper scale model. Well, Trekkies, we've got a project and a half for you this month. Take a look at ASPHIAX's scratch-built USS EURISKO - Intrepid Mark II Class, which is a large scale model of a Voyager-esque starship.
Early designs certainly had us salivating, and we had to reach for a mop and bucket when we saw the potential size of the model - it's certainly not small. The first step was to make a mould, starting with a wooden frame for bulk, on top of which shaping foam would be applied.
You can see the final version of the mould taking shape above, with the classic sweeping curves of the hull.
This was then smoothed, sanded and shaped to make a flat surface that could accept the details of the hull. These were quickly applied, and the project already looks light years ahead of the first update in just a matter of weeks.
As if the Star Trek theme isn't exciting enough, the project is also going to be water-cooled, with this section housing hard disks and a large radiator. Meanwhile, a thick layer of epoxy has been added to the outer layer of the mould to remove the wood and foam, leaving a strong shell.
Needless to say, this isn't one to miss if you're even remotely into Star Trek. If you'd like to vote for USS EURISKO - Intrepid Mark II Class, head over to our forum
That's all for this month! We'll be back next month with another edition of Mod of the Month, and six new projects that will all be shouting for your votes.
