Mod Gods - The Best PC Mods Ever Part 1

Since bit-tech began its climb up the world’s modding ladder, we’ve been treated to some of the most amazing spectacles and feats, as budding modding experts have strived to better their work. We’ve kept tabs on all this excellence with monthly and annual competitions such as Mod of the Month and Mod of the Year, and also speaking to the makers themselves with our fantastic front page features.

However, while our forum is a vast catalogue of mods and scratchbuilds, it’s not the best way of viewing all the best finished projects. After all, there are thousands of projects and hundreds of thousands of pages of updates to sift through. However, in a new article series called Mod Gods, we'll be collecting all the best projects (we couldn’t possibly hope to include all of them in one article), so you can sit there, jaw agape, as bit-tech shows you the very best mods and scratchbuilds from the last ten years.

In part one of Mod Gods, we’ll be looking at five of our favourites, dating all the way back to the turn of the millennium, and we’ll be featuring more in future instalments too. If you’ve got some favourites that we haven’t included yet, be sure to tell us in the comments or drop us a line at modding@bit-tech.net.

Dark Blade by G69T
Mod of the Year 2006 Entry: Here
Project Log: Here

We'll start with quite simply the most popular project ever on our forums. Dark Blade by forum member G69T has amassed over 3 million views since its conception in 2004; considering for much of this time it has been laying dormant in the depths of our project log forum this is a huge feat and testament to G69T's spectacular scratchbuild.

Without doubt Dark Blade's appeal is the clear out-of-the-box and abnormal design coupled with epic precision-made components and dazzling use of water cooling. Even six years later, the project would be a match for anything produced today. Sadly G69T has been fairly inactive for a number of years, with his recent DBRS Project coming to a halt before it was finished. Even so, G69T deserves his place in Mod Gods as one of our all-time favourites.
