Lighting, frame and fins

One of the things that would be a key factor in the mod would be the lighting. My initial thought was that I would decide on one colour, but after getting various suggestions from bit-tech users in my project log, I decided to buy RBG LEDs - LEDs which shine either red, blue or green.

The fins were TIG welded by one of my co-workers because I’m not very good at it. I welded a 'T' and hit it with a hammer to see if it would become brittle; it bent before it broke off, so it passed that test. The frame has been welded by this point; I would like to thank Raphael for doing this for me.

I wanted the fins to cover up the bottom of the frame completely. To do this, I had to make extensions to the feet to compensate for the shape of the fins. The photo on the left below shows this as well as my attempt at making an artistic-looking photo.

My initial idea was to hide the DVD player behind the fins, but the fins protruded, so I wouldn’t have been able to insert a DVD. I decided to stealth the DVD drive in the side of the door instead.
