S3 Graphics Chrome ULP GPUs Redefine Notebook Graphics Market for 14” and Smaller Mobile Computing Platforms

FREMONT, California, November 3, 2008 – S3 Graphics, a leading provider of graphics and multimedia technologies for energy efficient computing devices, today announced multiple Fujitsu product lines featuring the visual computing power of S3 Graphics discrete Chrome 430 ULP (Ultra Low Power) graphics processor.

Today’s users can now enjoy the latest HD media content online or on disks, in addition to mainstream features like DirectX™ 10.1 game play and business graphics optimizations based on the combined power of S3 Graphics and Intel® Centrino® 2 CPU technology. The Chrome 430 ULP multimedia engine is based on a programmable stream processor architecture and ChromotionHD™ video engine that brings 3D graphics to life along with Hi-Def™ theatre quality video.

“Beyond capturing Fujitsu’s signature attributes of thinness, lightness and style, the LifeBook S6520 incorporates S3 Graphics solution to stand out with dynamic and superior display capabilities while optimizing the ability to stay cool under the hood with industry-leading power efficiency. Partnering with S3 Graphics, our ability to bring about a highly rewarding visual experience, ultra-portability and a chance to be friendly to the environment all at once sums up Fujitsu’s knack to bring a user from an ordinary lifestyle to one teeming with delightful possibilities,” said Mr. Lim Teck Sin, Director of Product Marketing, Fujitsu PC Asia Pacific.

As experts in Thin-and-Light and ultra portable mobile designs, Fujitsu has introduced the LifeBook® S6520, LifeBook® S6420 and FMV-BIBLO MG/B80N models as the first, and lightest, 1.7kg products to incorporate a discrete GPU. Based on the most energy efficient GPU architecture on the market, with lower power than integrated graphics (IGP) chipset solutions, the Chrome 430 ULP brings flexibility and never-seen-before power savings technology to create an ideal balance between power and performance.

“Thin-and-Light is the direction the notebook PC market is taking, as mobility becomes a key part of people's lives," said Mr. Akira Nagahara, General Manager, Fujitsu Limited. "We chose to design our latest MG model using the Chrome 430 ULP ultra power efficient GPU because it delivers the best performance-to-space/weight ratio out of all the mobile GPUs in the market today. The result of the Fujitsu and S3 collaboration is an exceptionally light-weight product matching the performance of larger notebooks, and giving users the extra boost needed for today's visually-oriented applications."

"S3 Graphics is proud to continue building our partnership with Fujitsu to bring to market additional Thin-and-light notebook lines featuring our most power efficient graphics processors on the market today,” said Dr. Ken Weng, General Manager of S3 Graphics. “As the leader in innovative low power GPU designs, S3 Graphics has once again re-defined and created a new segment of DX10.1 and HD video mini-note and ultra portable notebook PCs. We see a fundamental shift in mainstream graphics performance moving down to smaller notebook form factors, and that is where our performance-per-watt strength comes into play.”

The S3 Graphics Chrome 430 ULP boasts the following leading edge features:

Battery savings technology unique to S3 Graphics, giving users mainstream graphics performance at lower than chipset integrated graphics (IGP) power levels

A new Microsoft® DirectX® 10.1 graphics engine that delivers up to 50% faster performance than the previous generation of ULP GPU products

Movie-going experience packed into a power efficient GPU complete with integrated audio and video support, featuring the ChromotionHD™ 2.0 video engine especially made for HD Content

Energy efficient PowerWise™ architecture utilizing proprietary algorithms and design methodologies for aggressive hardware and software power savings
