GamesMaster Golden Joystick Awards hits 1 million votes in record time

- World’s best videogames awards hits quickest-ever milestone

14/09/11 – More than 1 million votes have been cast so far in the GamesMaster Golden Joystick Awards – presented by Alienware, the world’s biggest and best videogames awards.

The milestone was reached after less than six weeks of voting, the fastest in the Joysticks’ 29 year history.

And with a full month to go before voting closes on 14th October, the 2011 event is well on course to beat 2010’s record total of 1.54 million votes.

“It’s great that we’ve already hit a million,” says George Walter, Editorial Co-ordinator of the GamesMaster Golden Joystick Awards – presented by Alienware. “All the time we’ve spent engaging with different game communities and extolling the Joysticks brand through social media is paying off.

“We’re also seeing some surprises in the voting, with a few unexpected titles taking an early lead – it’s too soon to say for sure, but we could be looking at a few upsets when the winners are announced.”

"One million votes in six weeks is a brilliant result - and we're only halfway through!” says James Kick, Associate Publisher of the awards. “It shows how much gamers are embracing the awards this year.”

Voters have been having their say at www.goldenjoystick.com in 14 diverse categories, including marquee awards like Ultimate Game of the Year and the taste-making One To Watch alongside new-for-2011 gongs for Best Free-to-play, Best Mobile and Best Downloadable.

And there’s still plenty of time for gamers across the globe to get involved and help decide the winners of the world's biggest and most popular gaming awards.

Winners will be announced on Friday 21st October at the glitzy awards ceremony in London. As well as the presentation of awards there will, for the first time, be a number of world exclusives unveiled through a series of presentations and press conferences. More information about the exclusive announcements will be made in the coming weeks.

The 2011 GamesMaster Golden Joystick Awards – presented by Alienware awards ceremony is on Friday 21 October at the Westminster Bridge Park Plaza, London. For more, visit www.goldenjoystick.com.
