Empowers system builders for energy efficient computing

Yantai, China, May 27th 2008 – FOXCONN today launched the first GREEN Series motherboard, heralding a new era in energy-efficient personal computing.

First disclosed at CeBIT 2008, the new GREEN Series range affords system builders, resellers and end users the capability to configure highly-efficient computing solutions for business and home use.

The G31MG-S launched today is based on the Intel® G31 chipset, with integrated Intel® GMA 3100 graphics and support for the latest Intel® Core™2 Quad and Core™2 Duo processors up to 95W power rating and FSB1333MHz.

The new motherboard includes FOXCONN’s proprietary 3G technologies which are designed to reduce power consumption, typically by around 68%*.

3G technologies comprise of GPS (Green Power Saving), GoD (Green on Demand) and GSM (Green System Mode).

GPS reduces power consumption in standby or ‘power off’ mode by around 95% by combining with a special GREEN Series power supply which reduces the power draw from the computer.

GoD technology intelligently manages the multi-phase power distribution on the motherboard, reducing the number of power phases in operation during low-loading periods, and increasing the number of phases when the computer is under heavy loading. This technique improves energy efficiency when the computer is operational, especially during light usage, where energy savings from single-phase power distribution are significant.

Finally GSM (Green System Mode) combines a number of BIOS and system settings to further enhance energy efficiency in all usage states.

Tests conducted in FOXCONN laboratories and demonstrated at CeBIT 2008 have shown typical energy savings of around 68%* for an office PC scenario, where the system may be powered off or in standby mode for a large part of any 24hr period, and running under light loading for much of the day, with intermittent heavier loading. A family ‘home PC’ usage scenario has demonstrated even greater savings – around 85%*, with the PC in standby or ‘power off’ mode for most of the day.

A large business with 200 PCs would make significant financial savings from GREEN Series technology. Based on an energy cost of US$0.30 per kWh and a 24hr usage profile of 15hrs standby/power off, 7hrs idle and 2hrs heavy loading (averaged), the annual financial saving would total around US$5,000.

Commenting on today’s launch, Eric Chu, Product Manager for GREEN Series motherboards said; “G31MG-S heralds a new era in energy-efficient computing solutions, and is the only motherboard to deliver energy savings in all power and usage states.”

According to Chu, FOXCONN will be bringing more GREEN Series motherboards to market in the coming months, including a solution based on the Intel® G45 chipset which also provides HD graphics capability. .

The G31MG-S includes FOX Energy Manager, which controls system and CPU power management technologies from a simple Windows application and also enables one-touch overclocking. In addition to the power-saving technologies, FOXCONN have bundled FOCUS (advanced audio calibration software) and FoxOne™ technology, for easy system monitoring and overclocking.

The G31MG-S supports Dual Channel DDR2 memory for cost-efficient memory performance, integrated 7.1 channel HD audio, Gigabit LAN, SATAII, USB2.0 and a graphics upgrade path via the PCIe x16 slot.

* Al power savings depend upon usage pattern and exact system configuration.
