We have just spoken to NVIDIA about the story we wrote yesterday regarding the price of GeForce 7800 GTX 512.

It seems that cards were selling like hot cakes, even with the inflated price tags that we were seeing on the largest etailers both in the UK and US. We heard that there was one store in Poland that didn't manage to get the products online, as they'd already sold out in-house.

I think we can say that NVIDIA and its partners didn't expect the cards to sell out quite so fast at the prices the partners had set. However, NVIDIA is expecting lots of these seemingly high-demand cards to hit the shelves next week, with the majority of them coming from BFGTech, Gainward, Point of View and XFX.

Having said that, we still believe that it's a little over priced for the time being, but as more stock arrives, we should see the prices settle down a bit over the next couple of weeks. Unless you have a burning urge to drop £500+ on a video card, we recommend sitting tight and waiting for GeForce 7800 GTX 512s price to settle down a little.

Did you manage to buy one before they sold out? Let us know in the forums.
