COMPUTEX 2009: Sean Maloney arrived on stage this afternoon for his keynote to announce that Taiwan has surpassed a huge milestone – it has shipped its one billionth Intel-based motherboard.

Intel congratulates the Taiwan tech industry on reaching this historic milestone,” he said.

This milestone is another signal that the desktop PC is not dead and that computer users continue to crave the processing power, graphics and storage capabilities that desktop PCs provide.

Maloney went onto describe how Taiwan has become an “innovation hub” for the IT industry before saying that he fully expects demand for desktop PCs to continue thanks to Taiwan’s technological pedigree.
