AMD has released a new X2 chip, the Athlon 64 5200+. It's faster than the X2 5000+ and slower than the FX-62, if you couldn't guess. It has the same 2.6GHz clock speed as the Athlon 64 X2 5000+ but has 2x1MB of cache rather than 2x512KB.

AMD's pricing suggests that it's going to cost around $403, meaning it will compete with Intel's Core 2 Duo E6600, which will possibly be a little faster.

AMD has snuck this out of the door quietly, possibly to avoid a public bashing in the face of Conroe. We'll let you know how it performs when we've gotten our hands on one.
