The United Kingdom Government is to ban the mighty standby switch which is responsible for billions of tons of wasted fuel in the UK and worldwide.

The ban, which will be imposed on all new electrical goods being sold in the UK, will help the government reach its target to reduce the amount of fossil fuel it burns, its also part of the UK government's energy saving plan which not just affects computers and electrical goods.

However, since standby mode in computers is software activated it looks as if computer manufactures are going to have to release patches to disable standby to comply with the law, we wonder if Microsoft will ever release a UK version of Windows Vista without the standby function?

Are you an energy waster that leaves the computer on 24/7, or one that hibernates it when not in use, or half way there with the standby switch? Use some energy to visit our forums.
